Feet After Boston Marathon
The Toes
The toes on my left foot were pristine after the Chicago Marathon, now the big toe was leaking blood from around the nail and out of the cuticle, but the worst part was the nail itself has somehow changed and actually has a rubberized appearance to it. This weird appearance caused me to leave a message for a podiatrist to see if he might be able to see me when I get home. When I touched the big toenail it would move floating on the giant blood blister covering the entirety of the area underneath the toenail.
The second biggest toe on the left? I've previously had the toenail permanently surgically removed. It didn't help this time around. The entire end swelled up in one single blister that made it look like a mushroom. 6 days later with almost zero time in shoes or socks the fluid from this blister is about half gone.
The toes on my right foot were in worse shape but also more like what I would have expected. I didn't want to look at all of the bloody blisters that would lead to both of the biggest toes on this side losing their nails but they just didn't look as weird.
The arches
The arches really aren't much different than they were at the end of the Chicago Marathon. They are more obviously red, probably because the underlying damage has had 24 hours to start healing. They don't hurt more than they did before. The taping strategy of a gauze pad, moleskin and KT tape definitely saved the day.
