The Best Pace Calculator Lives Again

Pace Calculator
I used to love a wonderfully simple, but powerful pace calculator over on coolrunning.com before active.com killed the site off.  What was brilliant about this calculator is that it didn't try to only do one thing.  It isn't really a pace calculator so much as a "give me 2 things and I'll figure out the 3rd" calculator.

That feature combined together with an easy way to shift between units, like miles for the distance but kilometers for the pace, and lot's of different units to select from made it very cool.  Where else have you seen the ability to take a 400 meter track time, enter it under pace and find out how long it would take to run 1 mile?  It even helps turn pool swims into open water distances!

Marathon Pace

If you want to know what pace a 3 hour marathon is, select Marathon from Pick Event, put 3 in the hours box before Time and select "Pace?", answer is 6:51.91 per mile. Oh, you wanted to know the per KM? Then select Per Kilometer and click "Pace?" again, now the answer is 4:15.95

How long is that long run?

Are you thinking about doing a 17 mile run at around 9:15 minutes per mile and you want to know how long you'll be on your feet? Put 17 in for the Distance, 9:15 in for the Pace and select "Time?", answer is 2:37:15. Hmm, I wonder how far it would be if the run gets capped at the 2 hour and 30 minute mark. Change the Time to 2:30 and select "Distance?" - 16.216 miles.

A favorite - 100 yd pool pace turned into a 1.9 KM swim time

Darn, I wish there was an easy way to see what time a half ironman 1.9km swim would take if I could maintain the 1:30 per hundred yard swim time from the pool. There is! Enter 1.9 KM for the Distance, 1 minute and 30 seconds for the Pace with Per 100 Yards for the units and select "Time?" a 31:10 swim, I wish!

Another favorite - Bike speed into race split

How long is the bike leg of a 70.3 mile triathlon going to be if you can hold a 19.2mph average?  Put 19.2 miles in for the Distance and 1 hour for the Time and click "Pace?"  Whatever the answer is for Pace doesn't even matter, just turn around and put 56 miles in for the Distance, change nothing else, click "Time?" and you'll see that it will take 2 hours and 55 minutes to do that bike leg.

Last, but not least - treadmill speed to pace

Hmm, what is the pace when the treadmill is set to 9.3 miles per hour? 9.3 miles for the Distance, 1 hour for the Time, "Pace?" is 6:27.09
